APRIL

      April: = Atlantic Bonito! This has to be my favorite time of the year. This is the first run of the year of migratory fish. These are great table fare or at the cleaning table as Sushi. I will have Wasabi & Teriyaki sauce so you can try it. Most people say it is better than Tuna. These guys run 5 to 10 lbs. and don't know when to quit! They will run off a 100 to 150 yards of line before you can say "scat", will eat a number of lures and flies, from top water to jigs. The best time is the last of April, 15th through 30th.
     Although they show up earlier, these are the prime dates! Bring your 8wts. or Trout rods with 12-lb. test, and come have some fun!

MAY

      The Roanoke River at Weldon NC. has to be one of the most unique places to fish that I know of. It is what is called a "Tail Race" fishery. Thousands of Stripers come up from the Albemarle Sound to the falls at Weldon to spawn. At any time you can expect to find up to 50,000 + fish in a 5 to 10 mile stretch of water. You will find a great evening top water bite, and when the morning bite is on it's unbelievable. With live bait (Herring), you will catch the bigger fish, 15 to 30 pounds, and with artificial baits you can catch numbers of fish (30 to 100 fish a day) in the 1-15 pound range.                                                                                           
      This is a great place to bring the spouse and kids! Weather, waves, and wind are not a factor for those who are prone to sea sickness, and we can fish in the rain. The only thing to chase you off the river is lightning. I don't like that fire in the sky! It is a peaceful river, quite, serene, beautiful, where Snowy Egrets, Wild Turkeys & Carolina song birds fly the river all day.                                                                         
      We fish in the 18' Polar Craft for this. Two people is ideal, but we can take a max of four with three fishing. If booked early enough I can make arrangements for multi boats. This is "World Class" fishing, and something that everyone should do in there lifetime!

JUNE

      The end of May through June is a wonderful time to be at Wrightsville Beach NC. As the water warms all kinds of fish show up. The Menhaden come in on the beach. You will find Cobia, Sharks, and other predator fish feeding on schools of Bunker that move in and out of the Inlets and along the beaches. We use the 23' Outrage to travel around the area to find the fish and cast live Bunker on the edge of the school. We entice these guys into striking with light tackle spinning, bait casting, or 10wt. fly rods. You need to hang on as these bullies, (20 to 40 pounds,) go screaming off  with your line!                                                                                                           
      Along with this, the Kings and Spanish have moved to the beach. A mile or so off the beach you find schools of Spanish Mackerel that are easy to cast to. They can be taken by trolling, casting, or fly fishing...take your pick. The King Mackerel are just a little farther off shore in smaller schools. Trolling is the best way to catch them, but when the conditions are right you can take them by casting top water...shallow running plugs or fly fishing.                                                                                                       
      While all this is going, on the inshore is going off. The Trout are on top water baits, Drum are moving to the flats, and the Flounder are moving in to the bays and sounds. Live bait, artificial, and fly all work well this time of year.
